Weekly Workout Recap: Feeling the Holiday Spirit

Hi all!

Hope you had a great weekend and are looking forward to a shortened holiday work week. I had brunch with friends Saturday and attended a fun cookie swap Sunday afternoon, so I feel full of holiday cheer. I'm flying home tonight and can't wait to see my family!

My mom is currently doing an exercise program where she takes boot camp-style classes almost every weekday. I'm going to take them with her this week, which should be really fun. I'll also be able to take my dad's yoga classes -- thank goodness, since yoga hasn't been happening lately. It should be a fun, active 6 days at home!

Workout Recap

Monday: 4.75 miles in Central Park with Beth.

Easy run on a cold morning. It was fairly dark when I started and I felt pretty creeped out, but then realized it was fairly unlikely that any would-be attacker would hang out in Central Park on such a cold morning. Or at least that's what I told myself. Also got in 2 miles with Beth, which made the morning a success in my book.

Tuesday: Refine Method class.

Always good to take one of Katie B's classes. She's a fantastic Refine instructor. Had to hop out before cool down so I could get to work on time (and eat something before a call). I have such a hard time in these early morning intense classes -- they always feel extra hard! Great to see Dori in class. Lots of kettlebells: deadlifts to lunges, squats with band around thighs (OW), squat to shoulder presses, and side lunges. Arms got it, too: bicep curls, rows, and spiderman push-ups.

Wednesday: Rest day.

Thursday: Sculpt Fusion class at Uplift Studios.

Great class with instructor Madeline. First time trying Sculpt Fusion and I liked it a lot! Great early AM class because it burns but you aren't jumping around at 6:30 AM. Largely yoga and pilates moves with added weights make it tough but doable. Class was made even more fun because it was packed with people I knew: Theodora, Melissa, Margaret, and Laura.

Friday: 3.8 mile runmute home from work.

This was my first time running home from work with my running backpack and I loved it! I don't know how often it'll be feasible, but it actually seems to be easier than running to work since I don't need to pack makeup or a coat in my backpack -- I'm going straight home! Running up 5th Avenue the Friday before Christmas was a slight disaster, but worth it to see the Rockefeller Center tree.

Saturday: 3.4 miles with Sourabh.

It was eerily warm this weekend, reaching temperatures of 70 degrees on Sunday, so Sourabh and I took advantage by getting some miles in Saturday afternoon. It was so nice to run in shorts and a tee! My legs miss seeing sunlight so much.

Sunday: Rest day.

If you celebrate the holiday, have a very merry Christmas!!

  1. Those photos are gorgeous. I've never run with a backpack, but there are definitely times when it would be a great way to sneak in a workout running from hear to there.

    1. Yes, I'm definitely going to try to use it more often now that I've seen how easy it is!

  2. I CANNOT believe you ran on 5th Avenue right around Xmas time. Girl, I give you credit for dealing with those crazy crowds! Also, great class on Thursday!

  4. Your Instagram pictures have been awesome! I've done a few runs with a brick bag, which is essentially a super tiny backpack that has room for one pair of sneakers inside. (It's a great training tool for bike-to-run workouts, hence the name. ;)) Have so much fun at home for the holidays!
